About Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology

History and Tradition

Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology has a history and tradition spanning over 150 years.
The Faculty of Agriculture traces its roots to the Agricultural Training School, and the Faculty of Engineering to the Sericulture Experiment Section — both established in 1874.
As an institution engaged in research and education on agriculture and sericulture, it played a central role in supporting food security and developing a world-class silk industry in Japan at the time.

Educational Environment

Our university is the only national university in Japan composed solely of a Faculty of Agriculture and a Faculty of Engineering, and it conducts education and research in agriculture, engineering, and interdisciplinary fields that integrate the two.
A wide range of research topics can be explored, including food, environment and energy, data science, life sciences, carbon neutrality, AI, robotics, and biotechnology.
One of the strengths of the university is its low student-to-faculty ratio, which allows for more interactive research opportunities between students and faculty members, resulting in high student satisfaction.

World-Leading Research Environment

World-class experimental equipment in our research faculties attracts researchers from around the world and fosters an international research environment on our campuses.
In addition, our campuses produce outstanding research results and achievements in areas such as wildlife and infectious diseases, autonomous driving technology, and brainwave analysis using AI.
In the 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subject, we achieved an impressive global ranking of 49th in Agriculture and Forestry.

Comprehensive Support for International Students

We also offer comprehensive support for international students coming to Japan for the first time. This includes a tutor system where Japanese students assist with their studies and daily life, as well as consultation sessions covering topics from the Japanese language to everyday matters. These programs help international students adjust to university life smoothly and quickly.

High Progression Rate and Specialization

Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology is known for its high graduate school progression rate, with over 70% of students advancing to graduate studies.
Graduates who receive specialized education go on to work in diverse fields such as food science, environmental science, chemistry, IT, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering.
